Our Team
JOELLE DERE, LCSW, C-SSWS
Founder, Clinical Director, Therapist
No matter what you’re struggling with, there can be peace in your current situation and hope for your future. I founded Align Counseling Center as a safe space for children, teens, young adults, parents—and their families—to find support and healing, without the fear of judgment.
As a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and Certified School Social Worker, I have extensive experience working with special needs students, as well as individuals suffering from a variety of behavioral health issues, including anxiety, depression, OCD, behavioral and adjustment disorders, developmental issues, post-traumatic stress disorder, low self-esteem, and family conflict. I also have experience with social skills training and providing support for caregivers and their loved ones.
I received a Master’s degree in Social Work with a certificate in Violence Against Women and Children from Rutgers University, MA in Educational Leadership and Administration from Montclair State University, and a BA in Family and Child Studies with a certificate in Child Advocacy and Policy from Montclair State University. Having worked in various settings, including public schools, charter schools, outpatient programs, and private practice, I bring with me a unique ability to meet clients where they are and help them toward their goals for personal flourishing.
CATHERINE KING, LCSW
Therapist
With a strong foundation in Attachment-Based Theory and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), my therapeutic approach is rooted in creating meaningful connections and empowering individuals to overcome life's challenges.
This dynamic combination allows me to address the intricate interplay between thoughts, emotions, and behaviors. Together with my clients, we identify and modify unhelpful thought patterns, developing practical strategies to navigate life's complexities.
My professional journey has taken me through various settings, including community mental health centers and private practices working with adults, in-home therapy with children and young adults in crisis, and school settings working with students as young as 5-years-old. I have also spent time working as a parent coach helping parents navigate the uncharted waters of raising children in this unique day and age. My clients have faced a spectrum of challenges, from anxiety and depression to challenges in the school environment, to relationship issues and trauma-related concerns.
I received a Master’s degree in Social Work and a BA in Psychology from Ramapo College. My hope is to extend my areas of expertise to help individuals navigate life transitions, manage stress, and build coping mechanisms that promote overall well-being. Each client brings a unique story, and I am committed to providing a safe and supportive space where they can explore their concerns, gain insight into their emotions, and embark on a journey of self-discovery. My philosophy is rooted in the belief that everyone has the capacity for growth and resilience while also honoring their past experiences and selves. I am here to walk beside you as you rediscover who you are, who you can become, and who you were meant to be.
MARIA BELLARDINO, LSW
Therapist
I am a compassionate therapist dedicated to helping individuals overcome challenges and achieve personal growth. With a specialized focus on Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and a person-centered approach, I integrate empathy, understanding, and evidence-based techniques to facilitate healing and positive change.
With years of professional experience, I have developed a deep understanding of a multitude of mental health issues, particularly in clients facing substance use disorders, anxiety, depression, bipolar disorder, PTSD, and grief. Through a client-centered lens, I empower individuals to explore their thoughts, emotions, and behaviors in a supportive and non-judgmental environment.
I completed my Master’s degree in Social Work and a BA in Psychology at Ramapo College, where I gained a solid foundation in psychological theories and therapeutic interventions. This academic background, combined with practical experience, enables me to tailor treatment plans that are both effective and personalized to each client's unique needs.
My goal is always to foster a collaborative therapeutic relationship built on trust and mutual respect. By working together with clients, I assist them in identifying negative thinking patterns, coping mechanisms, and behavioral triggers. Through the application of CBT techniques, I help clients challenge and reframe negative thoughts, leading to healthier perspectives and improved emotional well-being.
Additionally, I recognize the importance of addressing underlying issues such as trauma, grief, and addiction in the therapeutic process. I utilize evidence-based approaches to guide clients through the complexities of their experiences, promoting healing and resilience.
My dedication to helping individuals navigate life's challenges with empathy and expertise motivates me deeply. Whether supporting clients in overcoming addiction, managing anxiety, or processing grief, I am passionate about guiding individuals towards a path of healing, resilience, and personal growth.
